Product Developer

At Munro Tailoring we're looking for a Product Developer to join our team.
Full-time · HQ Amsterdam

About the job

As a Product Developer, you will form an integral part of our Product Development Team, collaborating closely with various departments to ensure the successful realisation of new developments. Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaboration with Product Team and ateliers: Work hand-in-hand with our Product Team, ateliers and Quality & Technical Expert to bring new developments to life, ensuring they meet the highest standards.

  • Cross-functional coordination: Maintain close communication with Sales, Customer Consultants, Customer Operations Specialists, Buying and the Creative Department to align design directions and market needs, plus ensure a thorough understanding of the products from a technical perspective.

  • System-development liaison: Collaborate with our IT team for all system-related developments, ensuring seamless integration and functionality.

  • Reporting: Report directly to the Team Lead of Product Development (PDT), providing updates and insights to support the overall development process.

Job Purpose

  • CAD program leadership: Lead and manage our CAD program, ensuring seamless integration from initial programming to final sketching for MTM development.

  • Pattern development: Develop new patterns for men's classical product lines (e.g., suits, trousers, shirts, overcoats, ceremonial wear) and casual wear (e.g., outerwear, denim, chinos). This includes overseeing the entire process, from prototyping to final product realisation.

  • System integration: Set up grading, measurements and alteration rules, and integrate necessary additions to the system, such as usage calculations and database updates.

  • Technical collaboration: Work closely with our Senior Management Team to provide technical input for the realisation of new ideas, covering both pattern and system-related aspects.

  • Cross-functional communication: Participate in the planning of fittings, meetings and cross-divisional communications to ensure a smooth development flow of new items.

  • Quality maintenance: Collaborate with our Product Team and ateliers to maintain product quality, focusing on workmanship, instructions and necessary technical adjustments.

Key responsibilities

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in fashion design, patternmaking or engineering.

  • Oversee the integration of CAD systems, including the training and development of team members in CAD program use.

  • Manage pattern transformation and settings to ensure precision and functionality.

  • Participate in meetings with our Senior Management Team to discuss and refine base designs.

  • Read and interpret design ideas, translating them into functional patterns for MTM [LT1] products.

  • Create patterns in CAD that align with our requirements and standards.

  • Develop measurement charts, technical instruction books and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for production.

  • Maintain effective communication with the factory on both current and new developments.

  • Organise and lead fittings involving all relevant departments to ensure fit and functionality.

  • Adjust patterns based on customer feedback to ensure continuous improvement and satisfaction.

  • Provide technical consultation regarding quality in collaboration with our Product Department, ensuring all products meet the required standards.

  • Develop technical trims based on market requirements.

  • Or ‘made-to-measure’. But then I’d be inclined to change that under ‘Job purpose’, too: CAD program leadership….made-to-measure development.

About you

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in fashion design, patternmaking or engineering.

  • Highly skilled in pattern programs Assyst and Gerber, ideally with knowledge of 3D technology.

  • Experience as a tailor’s apprentice or excellent technical knowledge in sartorial craftsmanship (preferred but not required).

  • At least 5 years of experience in men's patternmaking.

  • Proficient in Illustrator, PDM and 3D design software.

  • Detail-oriented and precise, yet efficient in delivering the right product to the customer.

  • Strong intercultural communication skills, with proficiency in written and spoken English.

  • Ability to read and interpret design ideas and translate them into garments.

  • Strong organisational skills, including the ability to maintain a clear overview of priorities and deadlines.

  • Open to working in a young and dynamic environment.

  • End-customer focused mindset in all daily tasks.

  • Driven by results with a focus on achieving long-term success. Might want to scratch this one, ‘dynamic’ seems already implied by the rest of the job description and ‘open to working in a young environment’ might not give off a desired vibe (‘open to’ can be read as ‘willing to accept this downside’). But up to you!

Why work here?

  • A great team of more then 200 international young and enthusiastic colleagues;

  • An energetic work environment;

  • A generous employee discount;

  • Office parties;

  • A discounted gym subscription;

  • A learning and development budget;

  • A great company pension;

  • Opportunities to develop yourself and your own ideas.
